History of the NHL Awards – Lady Byng Memorial Trophy

June 26, 2011 | Posted in Hockey

As improbable as it may seem in a sport that is recognized as one of the most physically punishing, the National Hockey League annually awards one player from the league for their sportsmanship – it is given as recognition of a player’s gentlemanly conduct and sportsmanship whilst exhibiting and maintaining a high level of playing ability. The Lady Byng Memorial Trophy is an absolute necessity for a league with a visible, and some might say increasing, level of violence associated with it. It is important in that it sends a clear message to both fans and players alike – that skill, good sportsmanship and professional conduct are vital and important to the sport, and that these qualities are worthy of recognition.

3D Wall Art Adds Dimension

June 14, 2011 | Posted in Interior Design

Just so we are all on the same page, 3-dimensional wall art does not refer to a Moose head wall mount. Nor does it describe a black-velvet Elvis painting, Norman Rockwell decorative plates or a gun rack. 3D wall art is much like wall decals or appliques, but in square foot panels and with raised patterns. The dimensional effect is much more than the textured wallpapers of the 1980′s. The patterns are more stylized, more interesting, and more indicative of the homeowner’s refined personal taste.

Understanding Ant Infestations

June 11, 2011 | Posted in Home & Family

Ants are often unwelcome guests at outdoor summer picnics, but they rarely pose a threat with the exception of fire ants. As an indoor guest some species can cause structural damage due to “nesting.” They can also sting or smell bad, depending on the species. All in all, most homeowners would agree that an ant infestation is a problem they would rather avoid.

June 11, 2011 | Posted in History

In the Peten Basin region of northern Guatemala, there exists one of the largest pre-Columbian archaeological sites; the ancient city of Tikal. One of the most impressive structures at the site is called the Temple of the Great Jaguar, or more commonly as “Temple I”. It is named so due to a lintel that represents a king sitting upon a jaguar throne. Another name is the Temple of Ah Cacao, for a ruler buried in the temple.

A Breathable Home vs. a Drafty Home

May 31, 2011 | Posted in Home & Family

We all know that a drafty home is costly; we also know an air-tight home is undesirable. Finding the happy medium can be difficult, but it is possible. Every crack and crevice in your home is an area of air leakage. Other air leakage can occur in outdoor water faucets, phone and cable lines entering the wall, bathroom and kitchen vents, furnace vents, laundry vents, chimneys, mail slots, garage doors and even air conditioners.
