Sleeping Should Not Be Annoying To Your Marriage – How To Fight Sleep Apnea

After snoring, perhaps the worst problem a married couple faces during night time is if one of them has a condition called sleep apnea. This is when a person stops breathing for seconds or even minutes during sleep then wakes up abruptly to catch his breath. Not only does the sufferer feel restless at night, his partner also gets disturbed in her sleep.

You may not be aware that you have it, but your partner certainly does. This is what happens at night: you awaken with a start just long enough for you to regain your normal breathing, but in that process, you have also awakened your partner. While you can return to your sleep without any real cognition that you have been disturbed, it will take a while for your partner to go back to sleep.

And that, my friend, produces the tension and stress in your relationship by the time you both awaken in the morning.

Most people wrongly assume that sleep apnea is more bothering than dangerous. Sleep apnea is a really serious life threatening condition. It raises the possibility of stroke, heart attack, and other heart diseases. So the issues here are not limited to you and your wife’s lack of sleep and how it strains your relationship, your life is also in danger.

The best advice you can take is to confer with a physician, one that focuses on Ear-Nose-Throat. Why? Because sleep apnea, just like snoring, has to do with the tongue and the throat. And while snoring only partly obstructs the airway by your tongue, sleep apnea fully blocks it, keeping you from breathing for a moment.

Your weight counts in sleep apnea. While there are those who have sleep apnea have normal Body Mass Index, most sufferers from the condition are overweight. Hence, don’t just drop the usual bad-for-you suspects (smoking, drinking, stress, etc.), also shed off some pounds.

Some sufferers use CPAP machines to assist them in ridding of the bothersome condition. CPAP stands for “continuous positive airway pressure,” a mask those with sleep apnea wear during sleeping. Its machine produces a positive pressure of air on the airway, therefore, forbidding it from closing.

Do not wait for sleep apnea to heal on its own. It will not. Go to a specialist immediately. Sleep Apnea doesn’t only affect your sleep, it also affect your wife’s. Not to mention, you are exposing yourself to more dangerous health issues.

Consult a qualified ENT specialist Singapore for your hearing loss and sleep apnea problems.
