Talented winger Ashley Young has finally made the decision to switch from Aston Villa to domestic champions Manchester United after putting his signature on a contract worth around 17 million pounds for his former club. With Young signing a deal that will keep him at his new club until he’s 30 years of age, the player should be able to give the Red Devils the benefit of the best years of his footballing career.

The transfer was confirmed following many months of speculation regarding the future of Young at Villa, with the winger deciding to stay at the club for a couple of years after he came to the forefront of the public imagination with a number of eye-catching performances on the wing. The player’s sense of loyalty was shaken abruptly, however, when serious news of United’s interest in him after four and a half years with Aston Villa was made public. It surely seems likely that not a single Villa fan will blame the winger for taking on a challenge that will allow him to turn out and compete for one of the biggest clubs in the world.

A man who knows the player very well on a personal and professional level, former Watford manager Aidy Boothroyd, has revealed that the Premier League champions will find a prize asset in the form of their new signing, who is thought to be always desperate to improve his game and understanding of his team mates wherever possible.

However, for Manchester United, the arrival of the youngster is just further evidence that the club are looking to add one or two new faces of quality to a squad that, although named champions last season, were accused by their critics of looking lethargic in certain areas of the pitch several times throughout the campaign. The winger is the club’s second summer signing after Blackburn defender Phil Jones, and the new arrivals are set to keep on coming, with Sir Alex Ferguson thought to be interested in bringing in one or two others before the start of the new league season.

On Ferguson’s shopping list of transfer targets for the next few weeks sits Atletico Madrid’s David de Gea, who many believe is the ideal replacement for Edwin van der Sar, who is of course now retired from the club. However, the young goalkeeper is yet to agree anything, so for now United fans need to look forward solely to the arrival of Young.
