Industrial and organizational psychology, often referred to as I/O psychology, I-O psychology or work psychology, is the practice of improving the success of a business by working with its greatest resource “its staff. Industrial and organizational psychological consultants do research to identify attitudes and behaviours in employees, having a look at how those perspectives and behaviors impact productivity and job success and how these contributors can be improved thru hiring practices, orientation and training programs, and benefits. Graduates of business organizational psychology graduate programs also reflect on how worker feedback systems can be employed to enhance overall productiveness and corporate success.

I/O psychological therapists generally work in corporate settings, often in all levels of human resources. They regularly provide counseling services in occassions of company stress such as downsizing and salary reduction, but most often are concerned in daily activities such as hiring, worker surveys and more. The field of economic and organizational psychology is large, and as such there's a sub-division of the American Psychological Organisation that helps inform and control the field.
